FISHING LICENCE..............

There is no National licensing system in Spain for fishermen but you will in almost every case require a local licence. This will vary in price but the cost is reasonable. Your licence (licencia de pesca) may be purchased at the regional administrative office or at locally designated locations. For British residents you should be certain to have a UK fishing permit which you can collect from your local post office before leaving home. This will facilitate the purchase of your Spanish licence. For Vinuela the licence is obtained from the regional office opposite the main bus station in Malaga City. You will also need to take your passport with you. The licence is for twelve months or a 5 year licence is also available.
Insurance must also be taken out to accompany your fishing licence - from the same office.

A licence once approved - is paid for at a branch of the Caja Rural and Caja Mar Banks.

Fishing the man made lakes of Andalucia is very popular and they are in the main very well stocked with Carp, Trout and Bass. Apart from Lake Vinuela there are many other lakes within easy driving distance in the province.

There are also some very good Angling rivers. The Rio Frio is one such river which lies mid way between Granada and Malaga in the foothills of the Sierra de Loja mountains. The Frio is well stocked with brown trout.

A local licence can be obtained at Loja from the Alberge de Pescadores telephone 34 958 321 520. You will find many of the local restaurants specializing in Trout as may be expected - it makes excellent eating.

The office of tourism in Andalucia 'Turismo Andaluz'  have produced a first class information pamphlet to help visiting fishermen - the booklet is called "Sports Fishing" and can be picked up from almost any tourist information office.

SEA FISHING...........

The coast line of Andalucia and of particular interest to us the Costa del Sol, is very popular with sea anglers. Both beach fishing and deep sea angling are common. There are many clubs and associations on the Costa who organize regular competitions. The Spanish fishermen will be found lining the shores on most Sunday mornings with multiple fishing rods under their individual control.

Fishing trips can be arranged in the local Marinas, Caleta de Velez, local to Lake Vinuela is no exception. From here you may be fishing for swordfish during the summer months (Jul - Sep) and possibly Tuna which is fairly plentiful. Other fish will include shark, sea bass, bream, gilthead and grouper.
A license to fish Lake Vinuela is now only issued at the office of the Medio Ambiente in Malaga and no longer available from Velez Malaga or Restaurante Camping.
